Robert Rich:
Silhouette from Gaudi (1991)
This album of new agey ambient plim plom with an image of Sagrada Familia on the cover, which I found in Lahti public library in my impressionable years, is very important to me because it happened to introduce me to the concept of “just intonation”. The idea that the twelve notes of the stave, the keyboard, or the fretboard, are just a convenient simplification - and indeed aberration - of the actual infinite spectrum of harmonic intervals based on whole-number ratios. The idea that the real stuff of the universe is to be found between the conventional pigeonholes ossified in our languages. I’m still down that road.
